SALES AND TRANSFERS

A sale is where you purchase a gun from us here in the store. A transfer is when you buy a gun from an FFL (Federal Firearms License holder) out of state and has it shipped to us (where it goes into our inventory) so that it can be legally transferred to you here in Arizona. Most transfers go smoothly; many customers do multiple transfers with us as they add to their collections.

A transfer is a simple 6-step process. You pay the FFL from whom you bought the gun; they send us a copy of their license; we send them a copy of ours; they ship the gun to us; we enter it into our inventory; we transfer it to you. All FFLs charge a transfer fee. There is a lot of paperwork involved with inventorying and transferring a firearm; our fee is one of the lowest in the area.

Sometimes things go haywire because the FFL or the customer did not follow the steps. Please read on:

  1. Prescott Shooting Range & Gun Club is our name. We are NOT Prescott Gun Club. That company no longer exists, and its FFL is long expired. This will definitely screw up the process.
  2. NO private party transfers. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you buy a gun from an online auction, be sure that the actual gun owner has an FFL license. If they do not have one, THEY ARE A PRIVATE PARTY AND WE WILL NOT ACCEPT THE TRANSFER.
  3. The FFL selling the gun to you must provide us with their FFL license first. NO EXCEPTIONS. They sold the gun, they made the profit on the gun, they do the work FIRST. That FFL is like our Social Security card, we won’t send it to anyone we haven’t verified as an FFL. It’s also common business courtesy.
  4. The FFL must send your name AND PHONE NUMBER. Believe it or not, we sometimes get a gun with no buyer name attached to it. An incompetent seller wastes your time and ours. If we have no way of contacting you, we will send the gun back to the seller.
  5. No outgoing transfers. We do NOT ship firearms. Even if we charged 3 times as much, it is not worth our time and hassle.
  6. JUST BECAUSE YOUR GUN IS RECEIVED BY US, IT IS NOT READY FOR PICK UP . . . YET
We must enter it into our computerized inventory system as belonging to us and prepare it for transfer. We will call you when it is ready for pickup. We realize that you are anxious to get that new gun into your hands, and we will process it as quickly as possible.
  7. Have correct identification. The ID requirements are clearly written on the ATF website, some of which are currently under review. We will NOT complete the sale/transfer if you do not have the correct ID; WE COULD LOSE OUR LICENSE. Read the next section CAREFULLY.
  8. We cannot hold firearms more than 2 weeks. We do not have sufficient storage space.

ACCEPTABLE FORMS OF IDENTIFICATION AT PSR AS OF 8/25/22

The ATF has set a “zero tolerance” policy on the paperwork for FFLs selling and transferring firearms. Mistakes on documents and forms that were previously minor infractions are now revocable offenses. Due to the risk to our Federal Firearms License, we are now ONLY accepting valid and current AZ driver’s licenses with your current and correct address as stated on the ATF’s website.

If you do not have your current and correct address on your license, we will ONLY accept as a secondary form of ID:

  1. a current and valid AZ vehicle registration with your correct address OR
  2. a current AZ Voter Identification Card with your correct and current address

We will not accept any other documents at this time. Though the ATF supposedly “allows” certain other documentation, they are revoking the licenses of some FFL licensees who are using those documents. Therefore, we are using our discretion and ONLY accepting those two forms of secondary ID which are clearly stated in the ATF identification rules.

Arizona state law requires you to update your driver’s license within 10 days of moving; it currently takes about 7-10 days to get your new license from when you update your address online at the az.gov website.

We cannot jeopardize Prescott’s only indoor shooting range; no firearm transaction is worth risking our FFL license. Please bring in correct, current identification. If you do not have the correct ID, we will send your transfer back or cancel your transaction—NO EXCEPTIONS.

Although the AZ Mobile ID app prints a facsimile of your driver’s license, a review is underway by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the ATF to rule on the acceptability of that as identification for a firearm purchase. The ATF is revoking some FFL licenses for the use of those as identification, so we are awaiting a formal ruling before accepting those documents again. The same is true of receipts or copies of changes of address from Footeworks or the MVD website.

We are happy to help our customers get the firearms they want; please help us in getting your firearm to you as quickly and easily as possible; thank you!
